From Heel to Toe: A Deep Dive into Forefoot, Midfoot, and Hindfoot Symptoms and Prescriptions

Overview:

Revolutionising podiatric care: a symptom-based approach to orthotic prescriptions

Clinical practice is full of complex presentations, but your approach to orthotic prescription doesn’t have to be complicated.

This three-part webinar series takes a symptom-focused lens to orthotic variables so you can make prescription decisions with purpose, confidence and clarity.

Delivered by Advanced MSK Podiatrist and Clinical Educator Louise Fisher, each session explores a distinct region of the foot - hindfoot, midfoot and forefoot - highlighting common clinical presentations, key orthotic modifications and practical decision-making strategies grounded in evidence and real-world examples.

Session 1 - Hindfoot Symptoms and Prescriptions

In this session, you’ll learn targeted ways to assess and manage hindfoot-related issues using orthotic variables. We’ll break down how to recognise patient-reported hindfoot pain, apply focused clinical evaluation and select orthotic elements such as heel cups, lifts, wedging, flanges and ankle-foot orthoses to improve stability, alter loading and reduce strain. Gain practical insights and case-based approaches for conditions ranging from plantar fasciopathy and Achilles tendinopathy to subtalar osteoarthritis and chronic ankle instability.

Session 2 - Midfoot Symptoms and Prescriptions

Midfoot pain and instability can be challenging without a structured approach. This webinar focuses on assessing midfoot-specific symptoms and applying orthotic modifications - including midfoot stabilisers, arch support adjustments and shell contouring - that enhance alignment and reduce strain. You’ll learn how to tailor prescriptions for issues such as midfoot osteoarthritis, Lisfranc injuries and arch collapse, prioritising the root cause of dysfunction rather than just the diagnosis.

Session 3 - Forefoot Symptoms and Prescriptions

Forefoot discomfort and pressure-related symptoms require precise orthotic design choices. This session helps you identify and evaluate common forefoot pain presentations and then select and combine orthotic modifications that relieve pressure, support function and improve patient comfort. Practical insights and case studies will show you how to tailor prescriptions to the underlying cause of forefoot symptoms - not just the label.

Across the series you’ll refine your clinical reasoning around orthotic variables, deepen your understanding of symptom-driven prescription strategies and gain confidence in translating assessment into effective orthotic solutions.

Attend one session or complete the full series - all webinars are available on-demand with three months’ access, so you can revisit the content whenever you need.
